Sara Lee® Bread and U.S. Hunger: Rising to the Challenge
Sara Lee Bread has always believed that food is more than nourishment. It’s about connection, comfort, and caring for one another.
A Partnership Rooted in Shared Values
At Sara Lee Bread, our mission has been to feed the soul of the American family with daily acts of love. It has guided our brand since the beginning, when founder Charles Lubin named the bakery after his daughter, Sara Lee, as a symbol of family, quality, love and the belief that good food brings people together. That belief still guides us today.
Those values are what unite Sara Lee Bread and U.S. Hunger. Since launching this partnership in 2023, Sara Lee Bread has pledged $1 million to support U.S. Hunger’s work connecting food to families through local events and community programs nationwide. These efforts reflect our shared values: compassion, community, and the belief that everyone deserves access to good food and our dedication to helping families not just during moments of crisis, but throughout the year, as they work toward more secure and nourishing futures.
Center to our partnership is a shared commitment to understand the lived experience of food security. Together, Sara Lee Bread and U.S. Hunger have conducted research to gain a deeper appreciation for how hunger insecurity impacts Americans and shapes not only solutions to food assistance but also root causes of hunger such as housing, employment and education.
"Sara Lee Bread didn't just become a U.S. Hunger corporate partner - they became our first corporate partner in uncovering the real stories behind hunger in America. By investing in our research in addition to providing meals to families, they're helping us understand the lived experiences of millions facing food insecurity, so together we can create meaningful solutions."
- Rick Whitted, Chief Executive Officer at U.S. Hunger.
2025 Impact: Turning Commitment into Action
In 2025 alone, Sara Lee Bread provided $250,000 in funds without restrictions to strengthen and expand the core programs that help families nationwide.
As a result, Sara Lee Bread’s support:
- Invested in the expansion of U.S. Hunger’s Full Cart® program operations, America’s virtual food bank, enabling more families to receive nutritious meal deliveries at home.
- In 2025, 2,167 total households were supported through the Full Cart program and 363,000 total meals were provided across all programs.
- Screened more families for social determinants of health needs, connecting them to resources beyond food alone.
- Supported nationwide hunger relief projects, including a community activation and investment in Wayne, New Jersey.
Our Commitment to Nourishment and Togetherness
Every day, families across the United States face hunger, making it harder to share meals and create meaningful moments together. At Sara Lee Bread, we believe that everyone deserves the comfort of good food and the joy of togetherness — year-round.
That’s why Sara Lee Bread stepped up once again in 2025 to help address hunger in communities nationwide. Through our ongoing partnership with U.S. Hunger, we helped to provide 1,000,000 meals and contributing $400,000 toward bread purchases for families in need during the holiday season and beyond. These efforts were designed to help families come together around food and build on our ongoing partnership with U.S. Hunger.
