Hot Honey Chicken Or Cauliflower Sandwich

Ingredients

  • Hot Honey Chicken Sandwiches Ingredients:
  • 4 Sara Lee® Artesano® Bakery Buns
  • 1 pound chicken thighs
  • 2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying

  • Dill Relish Mayo Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoon dill relish
  • 2 tablespoon mayo
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper

  • Coleslaw Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups slaw mix
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup mayo
  • 1 tablespoon chili paste
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Hot Honey Ingredients:
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes

  • Toppings:
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Handful of arugula
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • Pickles, slices

  • Hot Honey Cauliflower Sandwiches Ingredients:
  • 4 Sara Lee® Artesano® Bakery Buns
  • 1 whole cauliflower, cut into ½ inch slices
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper
  • ¾ cup water

  • Harissa Sauce Ingredients:
  • 6 tablespoons mayo
  • 2 tablespoons harissa spice blend

  • Coleslaw Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups slaw mix
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup mayo
  • 1 tablespoon chili paste
  • Salt and pepper

  • Hot Honey Ingredients:
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes

  • Toppings:
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Handful of arugula
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • Pickles, sliced

Directions

  1. 1. For Chicken, divide chicken thighs into 4 pieces. Cover with plastic wrap and pound them until they’re the same thickness.
  2. 2. In a bowl toss chicken with all the spices and ¼ cup oil. Use more oil if the mixture looks dry.
  3. 3. As the chicken marinades, place the vegetable oil in a cast iron skillet and allow it to heat up to 350°F.
  4. 4. Set up a frying station by beating the eggs and placing them in a bowl and then fill a plate with the flour. Dip the chicken in the egg and shake excess off, then coat in flour. Be sure to press on the flour to get the crispiest chicken, and dust excess off before frying.
  5. 5. Fry each piece of chicken for about 10-12 minutes, until the skin is crispy and the meat has reached an internal temperature of 165°F. Let chicken cool on a wire rack.
  6. 6. For the coleslaw, combine all ingredients in a bowl.
  7. 7. For the dill relish mayo, combine all ingredients in a bowl.
  8. 8. For the hot honey mix all ingredients in a bowl.
  9. 9. Use a pastry brush to coat the sides of the buns with melted butter, and toast them in the pan until browned.
  10. 10. To assemble sandwiches, spread mayo on the bottom bun. Layer arugula, tomato, chicken, drizzle hot honey, coleslaw, and pickles. Finally place the top bun and enjoy!

  11. If making the sandwiches with cauliflower instead of chicken, follow the below instructions:

  12. 1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  13. 2. Cut cauliflower head into ½ inch slices or medium size floret clusters.
  14. 3. Add all dry ingredients to a medium bowl and whisk together. Stir in ½ cup of water until incorporated. Add the remaining water as needed to achieve a pancake batter consistency.
  15. 4. Dip the cauliflower pieces into the batter. Use a pastry brush or your hands to make sure the batter gets into all the crevices and pockets of the cauliflower slices.
  16. 5. Place each piece of cauliflower on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer with space in between. Bake in a preheated oven for 25 minutes. Flip the pieces after 15 minutes.
  17. 6. To make the Harissa Sauce, whisk the harissa spice and mayo together in a small bowl.
  18. 7. When the cauliflower has cooked for 25 minutes, remove it from the oven and brush the harissa sauce very generously on the tops and edges of each cauliflower piece.
  19. 8. Bake for another 5-7 minutes until the harissa sauce is bubbly and caramelizing.
  20. 9. For the Cole slaw, mix ingredients in a bowl.
  21. 10. For the hot honey, mix ingredients in a bowl.
  22. 11. Use a pastry brush to coat the sides of the buns with melted butter, and toast them in the pan until browned.
  23. 12. To assemble, spread mayo on the bottom bun. Layer arugula, tomato, cauliflower, drizzle hot honey, coleslaw, and pickles. Finally place the top bun and enjoy!
